Highlighted NEX Stocks For October 12th

[Correction Notice: One of the "Friday"s below was incorrectly entered in as Thursday in the earlier version of this post. Apologies to anyone who was misled by that mistake.]

Thirty-six NEX stocks traded on Friday. Of these, 15 advanced, 10 declined and 11 remained unchanged. There were 111 trades. The top trader in terms of raw volume was Toba Industries Ltd. [NEX: TBG.H], with 100,000 shares traded. Unusually for the holder of the top spot in raw-volume terms, Toba got to the top of the list on only one trade: that same 100,000 shares, at 13.5 cents/share, as of about 9:34 AM ET. Six-figure-volume trades on the NEX are infrequent, but they tend to be accompanied by other trades during the day; this one wasn't. Toba closed at that same 13.5 cent/share, down 0.5 cents/share from Thursday's close; it placed seventh in the top-ten list of volume traded divided by total shares outstanding, found below.

According to the TSX Venture closing summary, the top trader in terms of value of shares traded for Friday was Rocher Deboule Minerals Corp. [NEX: RD.H]. All of RD.H's seven trades had Canaccord as the buy-side financial institution; they seemed to be grouped into two bought blocks comprising the first four and last three trades, of 54,000 and 15,000 shares respectively. The first three trades went for 45 cents/share and the last four went for 46 cents/share, leaving Rocher up 2.5 cents/share on the day. Those first three trades, comprising total volume of 47,000 shares, all had National Bank as the sell-side financial institution even though they all could not be part of a block if the purchase through Canaccord was. (Then, the three trades would have been a single one.) It's possible that the first and third trades were a sold block of 32,000 shares, with the second trade being an independent one of 15,000 shares, or all three could be a sold block with multiple buyers through Canaccord, or they were three independent trades of 11,500, 15,000 and 20,500 shares each. Given the gain in Rocher, and the likelihood of a bought block pushing the price up, the first possibility is most likely with the third being the next most likely. Rocher placed fifth on the top ten daily-turnover list, found below.

Only one NEX stock traded more than ten times on Friday, and it wasn't the usual suspect (which traded only ten times.) Isee3d Inc. [NEX: ICT.H] traded twelve times on Friday, with four of them being odd-lot-sized. The first two board-lot-sized trades went for 29.5 cents/share each, but the third went for 27 cents/share. The next three board-lot'ers, comprising the sixth through eighth trades of the day, went for 29.5 to 30 cents/share and seemed to be a bought block of 25,000 shares. The board-lot price dipped back to 29.5 cents/share for the second-last trade, but went back up to the closing price of 30 cents/share for the final trade of the day. (Those last two trades were definitely independent of each other.) This left Isee3d up 3 cents/share since Thursday's close, on daily volume of 33,136 shares. The four odd-lot'ers went for 25.5, 25, 27.5 and 28 cents/share, in their chronological order. Isee3d placed fourth on the top-ten list of daily volume divided by TSO, found below.

The top percentage gainer in Friday's trading was infrequently-traded Washmax Corp. [NEX: WMC.H], which closed at 12 cents/share for a gain of 4 cents/share, or 50%, on the day. One trade, of 5,000 shares at about 1:10 PM ET, put WMC.H at the top of this category.

The top percentage decliner for Friday was Biomerge Industries Ltd. [NEX: BIL.H], which closed at 1.5 cents/share for a decline of 1 cent/share, or 40%, on the day. BIL.H traded five times today, with four of them going at 2 cents/share and the fifth and final one going at the closing price. Those first four trades, with volumes totalling 41,000 shares, all had Desjardins as the buy-side financial institution, and all of them went within an hour and a half of each other. (The first went two seconds after trading started.) Despite the sameness in price and buy-side financial institution, all four don't seem to be a part of a single bought block although some of them may have been. Biomerge's total daily volume, including those four trades and the final one of 5,000 shares made at about 1:18 PM ET, was 46,000 shares.
