Highlighted NEX Stocks For October 17th

Thirty-four NEX stocks traded on Wednesday. Of these, 5 advanced, 4 declined and 25 remained unchanged. There were 115 trades. The top trader in terms of raw volume was Golden Hat Resources Inc. [NEX: GHA.H], with 347,000 shares traded. Golden Hat traded 5 times on Wednesday; four of those five trades went at exactly the same time, at about 1:58 PM ET. All four had Research Capital as the sell-side financial institution. Evidently, these four trades were part of a block, totalling 249,000 shares. All five trades went for the same price, 5.5 cents/share, and the final trade left Golden Hat unchanged since Tuesday's close. According to the TSX Venture closing summary, the top trader in terms of value of shares traded for Wednesday was Toba Industries Ltd. [NEX: TBG.H]. Toba was also the most numerous trader, trading fifteen times; it closed up 1 cent/share at 15 cents/share. Golden Hat placed second on the top ten daily-turnover list, found below; Toba placed third.

Three NEX stocks traded more than ten times on Wednesday. As mentioned just above, the most numerous trader in terms of number of trades was Toba. The first eight trades, with volumes totaling 137,000 shares, had Jennings as the buy-side financial institution. The first one went for 14 cents/share, as did the fifth through seventh; the second through fourth went for 14.5 cents/share, and the eighth went for the day's low of 13.5 cents/share. The ninth, of 25,000 shares between 1:34 and 1:35 PM ET, went for 14.5 cents/share. The last six, all of which went in the last half-hour of trading, were divided up into two clusters of four and two trades by buy-side financial institution and timing. Trades ten though thirteen were all bought through Canaccord, and went in a time period of little more than three minutes. Those trades totaled 50,000 shares; all of them went at 14.5 cents/share. The last two, which went at the same time, were bought through CIBC and totalled 20,000 shares. The former trade, of 15,000 shares, went for 14.5 cents/share; the latter, of 5,000 shares, went at the day's high of 15 cents/share. As mentioned above, Toba closed up a penny a share at that same 15 cents/share.

The second most numerous trader was Silvio Ventures [NEX: SIV.H], with thirteen trades. As is usual for this stock, the bulk of the trades were odd-lot-sized: twelve out of thirteen for Wednesday. Those odd-lot'ers all went at 48 cents/share, and all of them had PI Financial as the sell-side financial institution. The same PI Financial was the sell-side financial institution for the only board-lot-sized trade in SIV.H, of 5,000 shares, which went at 51 cents/share. Silvio closed unchanged at that same 51 cents/share, on daily volume of 7,508 shares, as the board-lot'ers are the only ones counted for daily-change purposes. The odd-lot price didn't change since Tuesday's close either.

The third most numerous trader, with 11 trades on Wednesday, was a name that's becoming a regular in this category as well: Biomerge Industries Ltd. [BIL.H], with eleven trades. The price of the eight board-lot-sized trades fluctuated between 2 and 2.5 cents/share, while the three odd-lot-sized trades all went at 0.5 cents/share. Biomerge wound up closing at 2 cents/share, unchanged since Tuesday's close, on daily volume of 82,500 shares.

The top percentage gainer in Wednesday's trading was HLD Land Development Limited Partnership [NEX: HLD.UN.H], which closed at 28 cents/share for a gain of 4 cents/share, or 16.67%, on the day. The trades in HLD took place within thirty minutes of each other; there were five of them in that time. The first four were all sold through Laurentian: two of them were board lots, of 3,000 and 3,500 shares, and two of them were odd lots. The board lots went for 26 cents/share, while the odd lots went for 24 cents/share. The last trade, of 2,000 shares, went for the closing price of 28 cents/share that put HLD in this slot.

The top percentage decliner for Wednesday was Rose Marie Resources Ltd. [NEX: RSR.H], which closed at 10.5 cents/share for a decline of 1.5 cents/share, or 12.5%, on the day. There were six trades in RSR.H: the first two, of 12,000 and 8,000 shares, went at Tuesday's closing price of 12 cents/share. The next four, all of which were sold through an anonymous financial institution, went at a lower price per share. 11 cents/share was the price for the third and fourth, and the closing price of 10.5 cents/share was made by the fifth and sixth trades. This close put RSR.H within 0.5 cents/share of its 52-week low. [Rose Marie was panned Wednesday morning as part of a Vancouver Sun article on the doings of accountant/promoter Brian Gracey; Canjex Publishing has the Rose-Marie-specific part of it here.]
