NEX Report for November 2, 2007

On Friday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 90.31, up 0.19 points or 0.211% from its previous close of 90.12. Despite the fact that it was almost completely an up day for the BBCI, the index fell more than a tenth of a point in the first minute of trading, to below 90. A 0.5 cent/share opening decline in Sharpe Resources Corporation [NEX: SHO.H] and a 1 cent/share opening decline in the price of Stone Mountain Holdings Inc. [NEX: SMO.H] combined to put the index at 89.98 as of 9:31 AM ET, where it remained until 9:33 AM ET. This level marked the low of the day.

It was a 1 cent/share opening gain in the price of Golden Hat Resources Inc. [NEX: GHA.H], again the NEX board's most active trader of the day, that pushed the BBCI up above 90 again. A 3 cent/share opening rise in the price of Monster Uranium Corp. [NEX: MU.H] as of about 9:39 AM ET, and a 3.5 cent/share gain in the price of Washmax Corp. [NEX: WMC.H] as of about 9:42 AM ET, both pushed the index up above 90.2 as of the latter time. The BBCI stayed between 90.19 and 90.25 until 10:36 AM ET, when 90.3 was broken due to a 1 cent/share recovery in the price of Stone Mountain. 90.4 was broken in the next minute because of a further 1 cent/share advance in the same stock.

After a reversal down to almost 90.3 as of 11:09 AM ET, which lasted for two minutes, the BBCI more than recovered; 90.5 was broken through as of 11:20 AM ET thanks to a 2.5 cent/share interday gain in Washmax. After sinking to just below 90.5, the index leapt up above 90.7 as of 11:59 AM ET because of a 5.5 cent/share opening leap in infrequently-traded Prism Resources [NEX: PRS.H] on its first and last trade of the day. A 2 cent/share interday decline in the price of Trilogy Metals Inc. [NEX: TRI.H] as of about 12:03 PM ET, which put TRI.H back to unchanged, lowered the BBCI from 90.77 to 90.71. This pullback proved to be a long pause, though, in preparation for the index to briefly break above 90.8 as of 12:43 PM ET and to make its daily high of 90.87 as of 12:45 PM ET. The high lasted until 12:50 PM ET, after which an afternoon drop started.

A 5 cent/share opening decline in the price of Maximum Ventures Inc. [NEX: MVI.H] on its first and last trade of the day knocked the index down to 90.53. By 1:00 PM ET, the decline had continued down below 90.4. An hour later, the BBCI was at 90.33. By 2:12 PM ET, a mid-afternoon recovery began, which took the BBCI all the way back to above 90.7 by 2:38 PM ET. This recovery failed to hold, though, despite a second attempt to rise durably above 90.7 as of 3:17 PM ET, and the BBCI found itself at 90.57 as of 3:27 PM ET. It remained at that level until a couple of last-minute declines in International Alliance Resources Inc. [NEX: ALL.H], of 2 cents/share as of about 3:57 PM ET and of a further 3.5 cents/share as of 3:58 PM, lowered the BBCI to its closing value of 90.31.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 90.24
  • 11 AM ET: 90.40
  • 12 PM ET: 90.77
  • 1 PM ET: 90.37
  • 2 PM ET: 90.33
  • 3 PM ET: 90.48

NEX Report for November 1, 2007

On Thursday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 90.12, up 0.73 points or 0.817% from its previous close of 89.39. Unlike on Wednesday, there was only one mover in the first minute of trading to change the BBCI from its previous closing value. SMC Ventures Inc. [NEX: SMV.H] opened down 0.5 cents/share from its previous closing price on its first trade of the day; the other NEX stocks that traded in the first minute either traded in odd lots or opened unchanged. Thus, the index barely moved in the first minute of trading, from 89.39 to 89.38.

This quiescence didn't last long. After an abortive attempt to rise that was mostly neutralized in the next minute, the BBCI jumped above 89.5 thanks to a 1.5 cent/share interday rise in Golden Hat Resources Inc. [NEX: GHA.H]. Golden Hat was quite active in the first half-hour of trading: by 10 AM ET, it had traded 500,000 shares, more than three-quarters of its daily volume of 665,000 shares. By 9:39 AM ET, the BBCI was just below 89.6, thanks to a 0.5 cent/share opening rise in Toba Industries Ltd. [NEX: TBG.H] in the previous minute's period and a 1 cent/share interday gain in Trilogy Metals Inc. [NEX: TRI.H]. A further 0.5 cent/share interday rise in GHA.H put the index well above 89.6 as of 9:48 AM ET.

The BBCI than took somewhat of a dive, to below 89.4 as of 10:15 AM ET. It had recovered to above 89.5 by 10:20 AM ET, thanks to a 6.5 cent/share opening rise in Becker Gold Mines Ltd. [NEX: BGD.H], and was above 89.6 by 10:38 AM ET. A further 3.5 cent/share interday rise in Becker put the BBCI above 89.7 as of 10:46 AM ET. 89.8 was briefly broken through as of 11:10 AM ET, but this rise lasted only for seven minutes. A more durable rise above that level had to wait until 11:44 AM ET, as prompted by a 1 cent/share interday gain in the price of Rocher Deboule Minerals Corp. [NEX: RD.H]. A slight backtrack was followed by a jump above 89.9 at 11:54 AM ET, which was partially erased a minute later, and another one at about 11:57 AM ET. This latter jump, prompted by a 3 cent/share interday rise in The Silver Recycling Company Inc. [NEX: TSR.H] lasted for 13 minutes. The BBCI didn't durably rise above 89.9 until 12:32 PM ET.

After spending more than an hour and fifty minutes trending between 89.9 and 89.99, the BBCI made a successful run at the 90 level at 2:26 PM ET. It was put at 90.05 by a 5 cent/share interday rise in Becker Gold Mines, which put the stock itself at a 14.5 cent/share gain for the day and equal to its closing value. [As reported in Tuesday's news releases section, Jeffrey Becker resigned from the presidency of the company and was replaced by Gary Freeman ] After hovering just above 90, the index jumped above 90.1 as of 3:36 PM ET. Put there by another 1 cent/share rise in Rocher, the BBCI didn't change at all for the rest of the day, making that level the closing value of 90.12. Unusually, the first minute's value was equal to the day's low, and the closing value was equal to the day's high.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 89.59
  • 11 AM ET: 89.71
  • 12 PM ET: 89.95
  • 1 PM ET: 89.93
  • 2 PM ET: 89.96
  • 3 PM ET: 90.03
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 90.12

NEX Report for October 31, 2007

On Wednesday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 89.39, down 0.43 points or 0.479% from its previous close of 89.82. The addition of one new trader, Stone Mountain Holdings Inc. [NEX: SMO.H], influenced the BBC Index right from the get-go: its first trade on the NEX was right at market's open, putting SMO.H down 0.5 cents/share from its previous close on the Venture. Other stocks that moved the index in the first minute of trading were: Arcland Resources Inc. [NEX: ADR.H], up 1.5 cents/share from its previous close within three seconds of market's open; Global Tree Technologies Inc. [NEX: GTT.H], which dropped 0.5 cents/share from its previous close; HLD Land Development Limited Partnership [NEX: HLD.UN.H], which opened up 1 cent/share above its previous close; Isee3d Ic. [NEX: ICT.H], which opened down 1 cent/share; and, ITI World Investment Group Class 'A' [NEX: IWI.H], which dropped from an opening gain of 3.5 cents/share to a loss of 0.5 cents/share within that first minute. These six NEX stocks, an unusually large number of movers during the first minute, didn't have that much influence on the BBCI: their combined weight put the index down less than one-tenths of a point. Despite a drop to 89.4 at 9:59 AM ET due to a 8 cent/share opening drop in Guildhall Minerals Ltd. [NEX: GDM.H], the BBCI recovered, and moved up until 11 AM ET. After a slight down-blip, the day's high of 89.89 was reached at 11:07 AM ET.

A decline started in earnest at that hour, reaching the day's low of 89.03 nine minutes after a more than 0.6-point plummet caused by a a 5 cent/share opening drop in Tapango Resources Ltd. [NEX: TPA.H] at about 11:47 AM ET. From that plummet, the BBCI slowly recovered, with intermittent drops, until 2:04 PM ET, when it reached almost 89.8.

The index started declining again as of 2:13 PM ET, due to a further 2 cent/share decline in Tapango. 89.5 was fallen through by 2:36 PM ET, and the BBCI was below 88.4 by 2:45 PM ET. A recovery to above that level lasted only until 3:17 PM, when the index fell briefly below 89.3 before recovering to 89.38. The index then spent the next forty-two minutes churning around 89.4, about the same level as the BBCI's closing value of 89.39.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 89.52
  • 11 AM ET: 89.87
  • 12 PM ET: 89.26
  • 1 PM ET: 89.43
  • 2 PM ET: 89.71
  • 3 PM ET: 89.45
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 89.39

This is the first part of the daily NEX report. The second part covers NEX stocks that have sent out news releases during October 31st and the third part covers NEX stocks of note for that day.

NEX Report for October 30, 2007

On Tuesday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 89.88, down 0.16 points or 0.178% from its previous close of 90.04. Despite that drop, the BBCI was up for most of the day. This uptrend started right at the first minute of trading, despite a 4 cent/share opening drop in IDG Holdings Inc. [NEX: IDH.H], because of a 2 cent/share opening gain in Monster Uranium Inc. [NEX: MU.H], a 1 cent/share opening gain in the price of Rocher Deboule Minerals Corp. [NEX: RD.H] and a 1 cent/share rise in the price of yesterday's dominant stock, Trilogy Metals Inc. [NEX: TRI.H]. The combination of these four movers put the BBCI up by about 0.08 points in the first minute of trading.

The index bounced around the 9:31 AM ET value for the next six minutes before 9:37 AM ET, when a further 1 cent/share rise in Rocher's price put the index well above 90.15. Trilogy's rise to 86 cents/share put the BBCI above 90.2, but it was a 0.5 cent/share interday rise in the price of Biomerge Industries Ltd. [NEX: BIL.H] that provided the big boost to the index as of about 9:49 AM ET. The BBCI reached 90.56 at that time. Except for a brief up-blip to almost 90.7 that lasted one minute and which established the high of the day, the BBCI stayed at that level until 10.49 AM ET, and about at that level until 11:19 AM ET. A later rise in Rocher put the index well above 90.5 at that time; the index stayed between 90.5 and 90.6 until 12:45 PM ET.

It was at this time that the uptrend ended. The next twenty-five minutes saw a quick decline that ended up at just above 90 by 1:10 PM ET. The stock that put the BBCI there at that time was Moneta Resources [NEX: MOT.H], whose two trades during the day, both made at exactly the same time, dropped its price by 5.5 cents/share. The decline continued apace until the day's low of 89.69 was reached at 1:43 PM ET. The BBCI stayed at this level until 2:03 PM ET.

The rest of the day saw a jagged recovery. 89.8 was reached as of 2:24 PM ET. After a short dawdle, the index moved above 89.84 as of 2:39 PM ET. This secondary recovery didn't last, though; it began caving as of two minutes before the last hour of trading started. A leap-up to above 89.94, as of 3:17 PM ET, lasted only eleven minutes before it vanished. The BBCI spent the last thirty-one minutes of trading on a downward drift, which ended with it reaching its closing value of 89.88

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 90.56
  • 11 AM ET: 90.51
  • 12 PM ET: 90.67
  • 1 PM ET: 90.37
  • 2 PM ET: 89.75
  • 3 PM ET: 89.89
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 89.88

This is the first part of the daily NEX report. The second part covers NEX stocks that have sent out news releases during October 30th and the third part covers NEX stocks of note for that day.

NEX Report for October 29, 2007

On Monday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 90.04, up 2.00 points or 2.27% from its previous close of 88.04. Trilogy Metals Inc. [NEX: TRI.H] was the "stock of the day;" it's mentioned briefly in the second part of Monday's report and more copiously in the third part. It took off like a rocket after the trading halt imposed on it this morning was lifted as of 9 AM PT or noon ET. The leap upwards in the BBCI wasn't primarily caused by that stock closing at almost double the value of its previous close, though. Trilogy was only one of several influences: in fact, it wasn't the stock that vaulted the BBCI above the 89 level. The stock that did is found below.

The first minute of trading saw the BBCI up almost 0.3 points, solely due to a 0.5 cent/share opening rise in Biomerge Industries Ltd. [NEX: BIL.H]. The erasure of that gain by 9:52 AM ET put the BBCI exactly where it was as of Friday's close. No other movers appeared until 10:50 AM, when Moneta Resources [NEX: MOT.H] made a 0.5 cent/share gain that was erased six minutes later. Once again, the BBCI stood unchanged since Friday's close, this time until 10:57 AM ET.

The next move was to the downside, to below 88, due to a 7.5 cent/share drop in the price of Arcland Resources Inc. [NEX: ADR.H] as of its first board-lot-sized trade of the day. Once there, the index didn't move until 11:38 AM ET, when a 0.5 cent/share opening rise in Golden Hat Minerals Inc. [NEX: GHA.H] put it up more than 0.03 points. That rise wasn't enough to put the BBCI back above 88. Just before noon ET, it sunk further to the low of the day, just below 87.92, where it stayed for the last two minutes before 12 PM ET.

Then, Trilogy opened for trading. It was at this point that the BBCI vaulted solidly above 88, and it didn't look back. There were four trades in TRI.H in the first minute after noon ET; the fourth left TRI.H 39 cents/share above its previous close and the BBCI at 88.22. After a short-lasting pullback to 65 cents/share that took the BBCI down below 88.2 with it, Trilogy re-rallied, but it wasn't the only stock pushing the index above 88.3 as of 12:09 PM ET. A 2 cent/share opening rise in Cierra Pacific Ventures Ltd. [NEX: CIZ.H] aided too. By 12:19 PM ET, the BBCI was approaching 88.4, and climbed above it by 12:42 PM ET thanks to a 3 cent/share opening rise in Cobre Exploration Corp. [NEX: CXV.H]. A 1.5 cent/share pullback in CXV.H put the index right at 88.4, where it hung around until 1:10 PM ET when a 0.5 cent/share rise in Global Tree Technologies Inc. [NEX: GTT.H] put the BBCI above 88.45.

The BBCI's rise until 2 PM ET was solid but irregular; by that time, it was at about 88.55. A 4 cent/share rise interday rise in Challenger Development Corp. [NEX: CDQ.H] put it above 88.6 at 2:11 PM ET, and a 1 cent/share interday rise in Rocher Deboule Minerals Corp. [NEX: RD.H] put the index above 88.7. Despite these leaps, the BBCI spent the next seventy minutes drifting downwards to reach 88.59 as of 3:03 PM ET, until the final upspurt began.

It started slowly, at 3:24 PM ET, with a 1 cent/share rise in Moneta Resources that got the BBCI up to 88.65. A further 4 cent/share interday rise in Moneta got the index up to above 88.9 at 3:40 PM, but the gainer that vaulted the BBCI up more than a point, to place it above 90, was Tapango Resources Inc. [NEX: TPA.H] through a nine cent/share gain to establish the day's high for the index. After staying at 90.06 for the next ten minutes, it was pushed down gently by a last-board-lot-sized trade in Trilogy which dropped its price by 2 cents/share from the previous trade's level, leaving TRI.H at 83 cents/share for a gain of 41 cents/share from its previous close at 42 cents/share, and the BBCI at its closing value of 90.04.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 88.04
  • 11 AM ET: 87.92
  • 12 PM ET: 87.92 [slightly less than 11 AM's value, but equalized due to rounding off.]
  • 1 PM ET: 88.39
  • 2 PM ET: 88.56
  • 3 PM ET: 88.60
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 90.04

NEX Report for October 26, 2007

On Friday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 88.04, down 0.05 points or 0.0568% from its previous close of 88.09. The first minute of trading after market's open saw the BBC Index move hardly at all. A 0.5 cent/share opening gain in Champlain Resources Inc. [NEX: CPL.H] was more than enough to counterbalance a 1 cent/share opening decline in ITI World Investment Group Inc. class 'A' [NEX: IWI.H]. Consequently, the BBCI was pushed up to 88.08. The index stayed above 88 until 10:12 AM ET, when a 2.5 cent/share drop in the price of Gold Star Resources Corp. [NEX: GXX.H] put the BBCI down to 87.98 as of the next minute. A 1 cent/share drop in the price of Silvio Ventures Inc. [NEX: SIV.H] as of about 10:14 AM ET put the index down a little more, to 87.94. A temporary return to above 88 was caused by a 2 cent/share opening gain in the price of Rocher Deboule Minerals Corp. [NEX: RD.H], by 10:22 AM, but 88 was descended below as of 10:30 AM ET. The index stayed between 87.9 and 88 for the rest of the morning.

At 12:02 PM ET, a 1 cent/share interday rise in the price of Mazarin Inc. [NEX: MAZ.H] brought the index back above 88. This gain erased an earlier 1 cent/share decline that put the index below 88 at 10:30. The high of the day was reached at 12:24 PM ET, due to a 2 cent/share opening rise in Toba Industries Ltd. [NEX: TBG.H]: Toba put the BBCI at 88.31. This high lasted only one minute; a 1 cent/share opening decline in the price of Tapango Resources Ltd. [NEX: TPA.H] put the index a little below 88.2. This turned to slightly below 88.2 because of a 1.5 cent/share interday rise in Magnate Ventures Inc. [NEX: MGV.H]. This leap put Magnate at a gain of 5 cents/share, and the BBCI at 88.19, as of 12:42 PM ET.

88 was broken through on the downside again at 1:43 PM ET, due to the erasure of the gain in Toba. Two minutes later, a 2 cent/share drop in the price of Tapango put the BBCI at the day's low of 87.67. After partially recovering to above 87.8 at 2:10 PM due to a 5 cent/share rise in the price of Quartz Mountain Resources Ltd. [NEX: QZM.H], the BBCI ranged between 87.75 and 87.85 until 3:22 PM ET.

At that minute, 88 was vaulted over again, thanks to an 8 cent/share gain in Guildhall Minerals [NEX: GDM.H] with respect to its previous close. The index hung around 88 for the rest of the day, rising gently to reach its closing value of 88.04.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 88.08
  • 11 AM ET: 87.96
  • 12 PM ET: 87.97
  • 1 PM ET: 88.19
  • 2 PM ET: 87.67
  • 3 PM ET: 87.85
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 88.04

This is the first part of the daily NEX report. The second part covers NEX stocks that have sent out news releases during October 26th and the third part covers NEX stocks of note for that day.

NEX Report for October 25, 2007

On Thursday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 88.09, up 0.07 points or 0.0795% from its previous close of 88.02. Despite a 1.5 cent/share opening gain in ITI World Investment Group Inc. class 'A' [NEX: IWI.H], the BBCI fell more than 0.15 points in the first minute after market's open, to 87.85. The ITI gain was more than swamped by a 2 cent/share opening drop in the price of Maximum Ventures Inc. [NEX: MVI.H] and a 1 cent/share opening drop in the price of Rocher Deboule Minerals Corp. [NEX: RD.H]. The index's dip below 87.9 was gone four minutes later due to a 1 cent/share interday rise in the price of Rocher. That rise brought the BBCI up to 87.92 as of 9:35 AM ET.

The 87.9 level failed to hold as of the end of the first half-hour of trading, though. A 1 cent/share interday drop in Rocher's price as of about 10 AM ET put the BBCI right back where it was as of 9:31 to 9:34 AM ET. The index managed to climb back to just below 87.9 as of 10:28 AM ET, due to a 1 cent/share gain in the price of Silvio Ventures Inc. [NEX: SIV.H], and above 88 as of 10:43 AM ET thanks to a 3.5 cent/share opening rise in the price of Module Resources Incorporated [NEX: MLE.H]. A 6.5 cent/share opening rise in the price of Raystar Capital Ltd. [NEX: RYA.H] put the index up to 88.21, the high of the day, where it stayed until 11:49 AM ET. 88.15 was the level around which the BBCI hovered until 12:20 PM ET; it hung around 88.1 until 12:26 PM ET.

That minute saw a 0.5 cent/share interday drop in the price of Biomerge Industries Ltd. [NEX: BIL.H], which put the index down below 88 again. The fall continued down below 87.5 to 87.42 at 12:50 PM ET, which marked the low for the day; the BBCI stayed at that level for one minute's time. It bounced back to a little above 87.5 and stayed around that level until 1:12 PM ET. A 2.5 cent/share opening gain in Fairchild Investments Ltd. [NEX: FIC.H] put the BBCI just below the 88 level, and an additional 0.5 cent/share gain in Fairchild's price put the index above 88. It would stay there until a brief dip at 1:51 PM, and a more enduring decline six minutes later as a result of a 1 cent/share interday drop in the price of Toba Industries. The index stayed between 87.8 and 87.9 until 3:42 PM ET, when an end-of-day rally pushed it well above the latter level. It wasn't until three minutes before the close of trading that the BBCI pushed above 88 again: Toba's stock went up 1 cent/share, putting it at a 1.5 cent/share loss of the day but also putting the index at its closing level of 88.09.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 87.85
  • 11 AM ET: 88.03
  • 12 PM ET: 88.15
  • 1 PM ET: 87.56
  • 2 PM ET: 87.83
  • 3 PM ET: 87.81

NEX Report for October 24, 2007

[Correction Notice: The original version of this report had "Tuesday" in the first sentence, when it should have been "Wednesday." Apologies to anyone that was misled.]

On Wednesday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 88.02, up 0.04 points or 0.0455% from its previous close of 87.98. The BBC Index sunk in the first minute of trading due to a 0.5 cent/share opening drop in the price of Biomerge Industries Ltd. [NEX: BIL.H] that was partially offset by a 3 cent/share rise in the price of IDG Holdings Inc. [NEX: IDH.H] on its first and last trade of the day. As of 9:31 AM ET, the index was at its low of the day, 87.77, although this level would be equalled for three minutes' time starting at 10:17 AM.

The resultant decline of more than two-tenths of a point in that first minute was mitigated somewhat by a 0.5 cent/share opening rise in the price of Toba Industries Ltd. [NEX: TBG.H] two minutes later, which put the index back above 87.8.

It remained around 87.8 until 10:30 AM ET, when 88 was broken through on the upside thanks to a 0.5 cent/share interday rise in Biomerge, which erased the opening decline in the stock's price. After a brief upsurge above 88.35 at 10:37 AM, which was caused by a short-lived 0.5 cent/share jump in Biomerge and which lasted two minutes, the BBCI slowly climbed up to 88.1 until 11:12 AM, when it went through 88.3 once again. A more durable 0.5 cent/share rise in Biomerge provided the propellant.

After a slight dropback to just above 88.3 as of 11:27 AM ET, the index moved higher, to above 88.4 by 11:41 AM ET. Ten minutes later, a 5 cent/share gain in the price of New Meridian Mining Corp. [NEX: NWC.H] put the BBCI at the day's high of 88.43, where it stayed until 12:06 PM ET when a 0.5 cent/share drop in Biomerge's price put the index down to 88.16. The index drifted around the 88.15 level until 1:09 PM ET, at which point it drifted slightly below the 88.1 level until 2:20 PM ET. A 0.5 cent/share interday rise in Toba put it above 88.15 by 2:21 PM ET, and another 0.5 cent/share Toba rise put the index above 88.2 two minutes later.

The last hour of trading saw somewhat of a downdrift. After sinking down close to 88.1 at 3:16 PM in a decline that was reversed six minutes later, the BBCI dropped more definitively starting at 3:32 PM ET. A 3.5 cent/share drop in Citadel Gold Mines Inc. [NEX: CGM.H] put the index at a shade above 88 by 3:40 PM ET. This level was hung around for the rest of the trading day, with a final move at 3:58 PM putting the BBCI at its closing value of 88.02.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 87.83
  • 11 AM ET: 88.10
  • 12 PM ET: 88.43
  • 1 PM ET: 88.16
  • 2 PM ET: 88.10
  • 3 PM ET: 88.22
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 88.02

This is the first part of the daily NEX report. The second part covers NEX stocks that have sent out news releases during October 24th and the third part covers NEX stocks of note for that day.

NEX Report for October 23, 2007

On Tuesday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 87.98, up 0.14 points or 0.159% from its previous close of 87.84. The modest gain for the day hid an interday volatility, which started with a drop the first minute of trading after market's open. The BBCI sunk almost six-tenths of a point during that time, due to a 4 cent/share opening drop in Fairchild Investments Ltd. [NEX: FIC.H] and a 1 cent/share opening drop in the price of Avigo Resources Corp. [NEX: TMX.H]. A few stocks opened unchanged during that time, and only one advanced: Allied Pacific Properties and Hotels Ltd. [NEX: PPH.H], by 0.5 cents/share. The resultant level of 87.25 held until 10:16 AM ET, after which the index dropped slightly for a seventeen-minute timespan due to a 1 cent/share opening drop in the price of BHR Buffalo Head Resources Inc. [NEX: BHR.H]. This span, during when the index was at 87.24, contained the BBCI low of the day.

Recovery started by 10:35 AM ET, with a 3 cent/share interday rise in the price of BHR.H. Two other rises put the BBCI at 87.44, as pushed up by a 1 cent/share opening rise in the price of Mazarin Inc. [NEX: MAZ.H] at about 10:43 AM ET and by a 4.5 cent/share opening rise in the price of HLD Land Development Limited Partnership [NEX: HLD.UN.H] at about 10:50 AM ET. These two gains were small in comparison to the next one, which put the index a little below 87.95 by 11:15 AM ET: a 4 cent/share opening rise in the price of Tapango Respources Ltd. [NEX: TPA.H]. The next significant move was a leap, made just before noon, due to a 2.5 cent/share interday rise in the price of Fairchild, which mostly erased its opening loss. This recovery was short-lived, though: Fairchild's price went down to 2 cents/share by 12:02 PM ET, which put it at only 0.5 cents/share above its opening price. Because of this dropback, the BBCI was just above 88 as of 12:03 PM ET.

The recovery in the index itself, though, proved to be more durable. A 0.5 cent/share interday rise in the price of Biomerge Industries Ltd. [NEX: BIL.H] pushed the index up above 88.3. A 0.5 cent/share interday rise in Allied Pacific's price as of about 12:30 PM ET, which put it at a 1 cent/share gain on the day, put the index up a more than a tenth of a point, to 88.38. 88.4 was crossed by 12:38 PM ET, thanks to a 0.5 cent/share interday rise in Golden Hat Resources Inc. [NEX: GHA.H]. A further 0.5 cent/share rise in Golden Hat put the BBCI above 88.45 by 1:24 PM ET, and a 0.5 cent/share rise in the price of Global Tree Technologies Inc. [NEX: GTT.H] put the index at its day's high of 88.51.

That high didn't last, as the BBCI fell down to about 88 by 1:45 PM ET due to a 6 cent/share drop in the price of Moneta Resources Inc. [NEX: MOT.H]. The index hovered around 88, because of a further 0.5 cent/share rise in Golden Hat which was erased two minutes later, until 2:28 PM ET. A 3.5 cent/share decline in the price of Xgen Ventures Inc. [NEX: XGN.H] at about 2:29 PM ET put the index just below 88 until 3:04 PM ET, when another 0.5 cent/share drop in the price of Golden Hat put the BBCI at 87.94. 87.9 was slid through on the downside by 3:33 PM ET. A last-minute recovery, thanks to a 3 cent/share interday rise in the price of ITI World Investment Group Inc. Class 'A' [NEX: IWI.H], put the index at its closing value of 87.98.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 87.25
  • 11 AM ET: 87.44
  • 12 PM ET: 88.37
  • 1 PM ET: 88.42
  • 2 PM ET: 88.02
  • 3 PM ET: 87.98
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 87.98 [somewhat higher than 3 PM's value, but equalized due to rounding off.]

This is the first part of the daily NEX report. The second part covers NEX stocks that have sent out news releases during October 23rd and the third part covers NEX stocks of note for that day.

NEX Report for October 22, 2007

[Correction Notice: In the original version of this entry, I made an arithmetical error that gave an incorrect change in the BBCI. From now on, I'll use a calculator more rigourously. Apologies to anyone who was misled.]
On Monday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 87.84, down 0.90 points or 1.01% from its previous close of 88.74. The first minute of trading saw a slump, as Biomerge Industries Ltd. [NEX: BIL.H] opened down 0.5 cents/share from yesterday's close, Rocher Deboule Minerals Corp. [NEX: RD.H] opened down 2 cents/share, and Tapestry Resources [NEX: TPR.H] opened with a 2 cent/share decline. Not all stocks declined during that time: ITI World Investment Group Inc. class 'A' [NEX: IWI.H] opened up with a 4 cent/share gain, and International LMM Ventures Corp. [NEX: LMM.H] opened up 1 cent/share higher than its previous close. All of these gainers and decliners, plus ones that opened unchanged, left the BBC Index down more than a quarter of a point in the first minute of trading.

The decline continued until somewhat after 10 AM ET. A 2 cent/share opening drop in HLD Land Development Limited Partnership [NEX: HLD.UN.H] at about 9:44 AM ET was followed by another 2.5 cent/share drop in its price two minutes later; the latter drop put the index below 88.4. A 1 cent/share opening drop in eReservation Systems Corp. [NEX: RSS.H] pushed the BBCI down a little more as of 10:03 AM ET.

Two minutes afterwards, a 1 cent/share interday jump in Biomerge, to 2.5 cents/share, put the BBCI up above 88.9. A 0.5 cent/share drop in the same Biomerge, as of 10:40 AM ET, put the index back to just above 88.6. Other stocks began moving into the fore, such as The Silver Recycling Company Inc. [NEX: TSR.H] as of about ten minutes later with an opening gain of 14 cents/share. This leap, plus an additional 3.5 cent/share jump in TSR.H less than three minutes later, put the BBCI up above 88.9 again by 10:52 AM ET. It hovered between 88.9 and 88.98 until 1:17 PM ET.

The slump that started at that point in time took a relatively swift course; it ended, after a one-minute secondary upwards reaction, with a thud that took the index down to below 88.1 at 1:32 PM ET. A 10 cent/share opening decline in Maximum Ventures Inc. [NEX: MVI.H], on its first and last trade of the day, was enough to drag the index down more than seven-tenths of a point. The 88 level was broken through on the downside by 1:54 PM ET, where it stayed for the rest of the day. From that point, though, the decline was relatively slow. 87.9 wasn't breached until 2:50 PM, and the level at which it settled at that minute was slightly below the closing value of 87.84.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 88.39
  • 11 AM ET: 88.93
  • 12 PM ET: 88.96
  • 1 PM ET: 88.97
  • 2 PM ET: 87.99
  • 3 PM ET: 87.84
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 87.84 [slightly higher that 3 PM's value, but equalized due to rounding off.]

This is the first part of the daily NEX report. The second part covers NEX stocks that have sent out news releases during October 22nd and the third part covers NEX stocks of note for that day.

NEX Report for October 19, 2007

On Friday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 88.74, up 0.81 points or 0.921% from its previous close of 87.93. Despite the large jump over the entire day, the morning action in the BBCI was quite sedate. The index hardly moved in the first minute of trading, dropping less than two-hundredths of a point from Thursday's close. 1 cent/share opening drops in the price of Greenshields Exploration Limited [NEX: GRX.H] and ITI World Investment Group Class 'A' [NEX: IWI.H] were almost completely counterbalanced by a 1.5 cent/share opening gain in the price of Millstreet Industries Inc. [NEX: MLI.H], leaving the BBCI virtually unchanged as of 9:31 AM ET.

The 88 level yielded as of 9:48 AM ET, due to an opening 2.5 cent/share gain in the price of Rocher Deboule Minerals Corp. [NEX: RD.H]. Except for a 3-minute up-blip to above 88.2, caused by a 5.5 cent/share gain in Washmax Corp. [NEX: WMC.H], and a down-blip to below 87.8, caused by a 0.5 cent/share decline in Biomerge Industries Ltd. [BIL.H] that reversed itself in the next minute, the index stayed between 88.03 and 88.07 for the rest of the morning. This unusually narrow range held until 12:30 PM ET.

At that minute, it was broken on the downside by a 7 cent/share drop in the price of The Silver Recycling Company Inc. [NEX: TSR.H]. Five minutes later, the BBCI went from 87.88 to 87.79 due to a 4.5 cent/share drop in the price of Becker Gold Mines Ltd. [NEX: BGD.H]. After a partial secondary recovery, the index slipped to just above 87.7 and stayed there until 1:40 PM ET, when it faced the biggest one-minute drop of the day. A 4 cent/share opening decline in the price of Newstrike Capital Inc. [NEX: NES.H] put the BBCI down more than four tenths of a point, to just below 87.3. This point marked the low of the day, although it opened up a trough that lasted for more than fifty minutes.

Shortly after 2 PM, that trough began to be erased: a 4 cent/share opening gain in the price of Citadel Gold Mines Inc. [NEX: CGM.H] put the BBCI above 87.5, briefly. That level failed to hold, though; the index went back down, reaching 87.4 by 2:28 PM ET after spending one minute below 87.4.

As of 2:32 PM ET, the fortunes of the BBCI changed quickly. A $1.10 rise in the price of The Goldfarb Corporation [NEX: GDF.H] put the BBCI almost at 88.8. One minute later, 88.8 yielded thanks to a 0.5 cent/share interday rise in the price of Rocher Deboule.

The daily high wasn't reached until well after 3 PM, after somewhat of a fallback that ended at the 88.63 level. As of 3:34 PM ET, a 1.5 cent/share interday rise in the price of Toba Industries Ltd. [NEX: TBG.H] put the index up to the day's high of 88.86. This high melted away somewhat in the last twenty minutes of trading, not counting a two-minute drop to below 88.5 that was caused by yet another later-reversed 0.5 cent/share drop in Biomerge. A last-minute 1 cent/share drop in Gold Star Resources Corp. [NEX: GXX.H], on its only trade of the day, put the BBCI at its closing value of 88.74.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 88.08
  • 11 AM ET: 88.04
  • 12 PM ET: 88.04 [slightly higher than the previous hour's level, but equalized due to rounding off.]
  • 1 PM ET: 87.71
  • 2 PM ET: 87.37
  • 3 PM ET: 88.63
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 88.74

NEX Report for October 18, 2007

On Thursday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 87.93, up 0.48 points or 0.549% from its previous close of 87.45. The BBCI went up more than a tenth of a point in the first minute of trading, thanks to 0.5 cent/share increases in the prices of Golden Hat Resources Inc. [NEX: GHA.H], Rocher Deboule Minerals Corp. [NEX: RD.H] and Toba Industries Ltd. [NEX: TBG.H]. The index also gained in both of the next two minutes of trading, thanks to a 2 cent/share gain in Moneta Resources [NEX: MOT.H] and a 5 cent/share opening leap in the price of Electrohome Limited Class 'Y' non-voting shares [NEX: ELL.K], which put the BBCI slightly above 87.72 and minisculely below 87.8 respectively. A slight dip at 9:45 AM ET, due to a 1 cent/share interday drop in ELL.K, left the BBCI at 87.78, where it stayed until 10:49 AM ET.

The index had several further declines between 10:50 AM ET and 11:43 AM ET, leaving it at a trough of 87.47 from the latter time to 12:10 PM ET. A rise slightly above 87.5 in the next minute, due to a 1 cent/share interday gain in the price of Rocher Deboule, was more than erased by a 1.5 cent/share interday decline in the same stock's price as of about 12:42 PM ET. This next trough was at 87.45, and it marked the first time in the day that the BBCI was in a loss position with respect to yesterday's close, even if that loss was zeroed out by rounding.

As of 1 PM ET, the BBCI had jumped up well above 87.5 due to a 3 cent/share interday rise in Cantrell Capital Corp. [NEX: CLJ.H], which erased a 3 cent/share loss established by its first trade as of about 11:42 AM ET. The index then crested up to 87.64 before declining to the day's low of 87.38, reached at 2:24 PM ET. A small rise was effected at 2:27 PM ET due to a 0.5 cent/share opening, or first-trade, rise in the price of Rose Marie Resources Inc. [NEX: RSR.H].

The next upturn was far from insignificant: it took the BBCI up to territory not seen in weeks. Fairchild Investments Ltd. [NEX: FIC.H] rose 4 cents/share on its first and last trade of the day, pushing it up to 5.5 cents/share. This triple-digit gain in FIC.H pushed the BBCI up above 88. The day's high of 88.11 was reached at 2:39 PM ET thanks to a 0.5 cent/share interday rise in Toba Industries. Despite a decline as of 2:27 PM ET, due to a 5 cent/share first-trade drop in the price of Avigo Resources Inc. [NEX: TMX.H], the BBCI stayed above 88 until 3:42 PM ET. A further, 1.5 cent/share, drop in Avigo's price by that time brought the BBCI down to its closing level of 87.93.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 87.78
  • 11 AM ET: 87.69
  • 12 PM ET: 87.47
  • 1 PM ET: 87.58
  • 2 PM ET: 87.48
  • 3 PM ET: 88.07
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 87.93

This is the first part of the daily NEX report. The second part covers NEX stocks that have sent out news releases during October 18th and the third part covers NEX stocks of note for that day.

NEX Report for October 17, 2007

On Wednesday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 87.45, up 0.56 points or 0.645% from its previous close of 86.89. The BBCI rallied above the 87 level in the first minute after market's open, thanks to a 0.5 cent/share opening increase in Biomerge Industries Ltd. [NEX: BIL.H] and despite a 1 cent/share opening drop in the price of Rocher Deboule Minerals Corp. [NEX: RD.H]. 87.5 was broken through on the upside by 9:49 AM ET, because of a 5 cent/share opening rise in the price of Newstrike Capital Inc. [NEX: NES.H]. A 1.5 cent/share interday rise in the price of Rocher, on its second and last trade of the day, pushed the BBCI up to 87.69.

The index stayed between 87.65 and 87.7 until 10:33 AM ET, when the erasure of the opening gain in Biomerge pushed the BBCI down to 87.34. This dip lasted three minutes, and was almost erased when a return to 2.5 cents/share for Biomerge put the index above 87.6 again. A 0.5 cent/share interday rise in the price of Toba Industries Ltd. [NEX: TBG.H] put the index up above 87.65; 87.7 was briefly risen above at 11:52 AM ET with a 0.5 cent/share rise in Mazarin Inc. [NEX: MAZ.H] which put the stock up to unchanged on the day. This break-through lasted only three minutes, and was ended by a return to 2 cents/share for Biomerge. An early-afternoon trough developed, which took the BBCI to exactly the same level at 12:29 PM-12:54 PM ET and 1:20-1:32 PM ET.

That trough vanished as of 1:33 PM ET with Biomerge's rise to 2.5 cents/share by then. Two minutes later, the BBCI reached its high of the day, 87.75, due to a 1 cent/share interday rise in Toba, and stayed there until 2:27 PM ET. The index dipped slightly at that point, and sunk below 87.5 as of 2:56 PM ET because of yet another return to 2 cent/share for Biomerge. The BBCI spent the last hour quietly ranging between 87.45 and 87.5; it closed at the lower end of this range at 87.45.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 87.69
  • 11 AM ET: 87.66
  • 12 PM ET: 87.43
  • 1 PM ET: 87.38
  • 2 PM ET: 87.75
  • 3 PM ET: 87.47
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 87.45

This is the first part of the daily NEX report. The second part covers NEX stocks that have sent out news releases during October 17th and the third part covers NEX stocks of note for that day.

NEX Report for October 16, 2007

[Correction Notice: The second word of the original version of this report was "Monday" when Tuesday should have been there; this mistake has now been corrected. Apologies to any who were misled.]

On Tuesday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 86.89, down 0.11 points or 0.126% from its previous close of 87.00. The BBCI dropped more than a tenth of a point during the first minute after the market opened, because of a 1.5 cent/share drop in the price of Magnate Ventures Inc. [NEX: MGV.H], a 0.5 cent/share opening drop in the price of Rocher Deboule Minerals Corp. [NEX: RD.H] and a 3.5 cent/share drop in the opening price of Trilogy Metals Inc. [NEX: TRI.H]. TRI.H stayed where it was for the rest of the day, Magnate recovered to unchanged, and Rocher more than recovered.

The descent below 86.9 only lasted four minutes. As of 9:35 AM ET, the index was back above 87 thanks to a 3 cent/share interday rise in Rocher. An added 2 cent/share rise pushed the BBCI up above 87.2. 87.4 was crossed to the upside by 9:46 AM, as caused by a 0.5 cent/share interday rise in the price of Biomerge Industries Ltd. [NEX: BIL.H]. After this point, the index slowly drifted down, with intermittent secondary reactions; by 12 noon ET, it was 87.21, although the morning trough of 87.11 was reached at 10:35 AM ET.

The next hour saw an upturn, cresting at 87.43 at about 12:43 PM ET, the day's high. Before 1 PM ET, though, the index turned down again; this downturn accelerated shortly after 1 ET, reaching 87.05 by 1:28 PM ET through a 2 cent/share drop in the price of Raystar Enterprises Ltd. [NEX: RST.H]. Raystar was one of several decliners in the early afternoon which dragged the BBCI down from above-87.4 territory.

After a drift period that ended at 2:20 PM ET, the BBCI fell below 87 as pushed down by a 5.5 cent/share opening drop in Focus Ventures Ltd. [NEX: FCV.H] on its first and last trade of the day. After a light rebound, the index sunk further, reaching 86.74 as of 2:53 PM ET because of a 0.5 cent/share interday drop in Becker Gold Mines Ltd. [NEX: BGD.H]. The previous minute saw the BBCI slump down to just above 86.75 due to a 9.5 cent/share opening drop in the price of Becker.

The last plummet of the day occurred at about 3:13 PM ET, with a 2 cent/share interday drop in Tapango Resources Ltd. [NEX: TPA.H] that put the BBCI at the day's low, just below 86.5. From this minute onwards, though, the index moved up, helped by a 1.5 cent/share interday gain in Toba Industries Ltd. [NEX: TBG.H] at about 3:20 PM ET and a 4 cent/share interday gain, at 3:41 PM ET, in one of the day's consistent interday winners between its trades: Cantrell Capital Corp. [NEX: CLJ.H]. Cantrell would double its price during the day; its last rise to 20 cents/share took place at that same 3:41 PM ET. Another 0.5 cent/share rise in Toba as of about 3:53 PM ET would later be cancelled out by a 0.5 cent/share dropback, putting the BBCI at its closing value of 86.89.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 87.34
  • 11 AM ET: 87.16
  • 12 PM ET: 87.21
  • 1 PM ET: 87.36
  • 2 PM ET: 87.07
  • 3 PM ET: 86.74
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 86.89

NEX Report for October 15, 2007

On Monday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 87.00, up 0.80 points or 0.928% from its previous close of 86.20. The BBC Index hardly moved at all in the first minute of trading, and little until about 9:43 AM ET. A half-cent/share rise in Biomerge Industries Ltd. [NEX: BIL.H] put the BBCI up more than a quarter of a point during that minute. Six minutes later, a 1.5 cent/share rise in infrequently-traded Allied Pacific Properties and Hotels Ltd. [NEX: PPH.H] added a comparable amount to the index, pushing it above 86.7, where it stayed until about 10:05 AM ET.

From that point, it dropped. A 0.5 cent/share opening decline in the price of Gold Star Resources [NEX: GXX.H] turned into a 3 cent/share decline thanks in large part to a 2 cent/share interday drop at about 10:05 AM ET, pushing the BBCI back below 86.7. The minute after that saw Biomerge giving up its 0.5 cent/share gain, which caused the index to fall almost to 86.4. The cumulative effect of several other interday decliners pushed the BBCI down to below 86 as of 11:26 AM ET. It stayed at the 86 level, or just below, until 12:02 PM ET.

Within a minute of that time, an opening gain of 6 cents/share in Tapango Resources Ltd. [NEX: TPA.H] vaulted the BBCI up above 86.7 again. After a backtrack of less than a tenth of a point, the BBCI leapt up to almost 86.8 as of 12:40 PM ET, thanks to a 10.5 cent/share leap in infrequently-traded Arcland Resources Inc. [NEX: ADR.H]. After falling back somewhat in the next minute, the index hovered at around 86.5 until 1:13 PM ET.

At that point, the BBCI jumped up to a level that was close to its daily high: 87.44. The cause was a 9.5 cent/share opening leap in the price of Maximum Ventures Inc. [NEX: MVI.H] on its first and last trade of the day. After that leap, the index drifted downwards to its 2 PM ET level of 87.13. One downward cause was a 12 cent/share drop in the price of MCO Capital Inc. class 'B' [NEX: MCO.H], which pushed the BBCI down more than a tenth of a point as of 1:35 PM ET. Another decline of more than a tenth of a point came at about 1:48 PM ET due to a 1 cent/share interday drop in Toba Industries Ltd. [NEX: TBG.H]. Right after 2 PM ET, the drift reversed itself, carrying the BBCI up to its daily high of 87.49 as of 2:37 PM ET, where it stayed until 2:51 PM ET.

This level failed to hold, however, as did 87 itself as of 3:15 PM ET. 86.9 held, though, and a few stabs were made at 87 in the last forty-five minutes of trading. The closest came last, as of 3:58 PM ET with the last trades of the day. A 4 cent/share interday recovery in decliner Datavest International Ltd. [NEX: DAI.H], mitigating its loss on the day to 1.5 cents/share, managed to give the BBCI a final pull-up, to minisculey below its rounded-off closing value of 87.00.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 86.71
  • 11 AM ET: 86.09
  • 12 PM ET: 85.99
  • 1 PM ET: 86.77
  • 2 PM ET: 87.13
  • 3 PM ET: 87.32
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 87.00

This is the first part of the daily NEX report. The second part covers NEX stocks that have sent out news releases during October 15th and the third part covers NEX stocks of note for that day.

NEX Report for October 12, 2007

On Friday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 86.20, down 1.06 points or 1.21% from its previous close of 87.26. A 0.5 cent/share opening drop in the price of Biomerge Industries Ltd. [NEX: BIL.H] and a 6.5 cent/share opening drop in the price of Module Resources Incorporated, not offset by any opening gainers, pushed the BBC Index down more than 0.48 points in the first minute of trading. Another first-trade decliner, Toba Industries Ltd. [NEX: TBG.H], pushed the BBCI down another 0.06 points through opening down 0.5 cents/share from its previous close. Specialty Foods Group Income Fund [NEX: HAM.UN.H] also opened 0.5 cents/share down, pushing the index minisculely below 86.7 by 9:49 AM ET. It took a 2.5 cent/share opening gain in Isee3d Inc. [NEX: ICT.H] to push the BBCI above 86.7 again, to a rounded-off 86.75.

After penetrating 86.7 to the downside again at 10:06 AM ET, for about two minutes, the BBCI rallied above 86.75, thanks to a 1.5 cent/share opening gain for Rocher Deboule Minerals Corp. [NEX: RD.H] and above 86.8 two minutes subsequently thanks to an additional 1 cent/share rise in RD.H. This morning rise peaked at 86.88 as of 10:38 PM ET with a 3 cent/share jump in Isee3d, from a 10:05 AM ET trade that had put it back to unchanged.

The rally in the index fizzled, though, as of 10:44 AM ET. As of eight minutes after the start of the downturn, the BBCI had dropped to 86.54 due to a an 8.5 cent/share opening loss in the price of Datinvest International Ltd. [NEX: DAI.H] on its first and last trade of the day. The index didn't get back above 86.7 until 11:10 AM ET due to a 2 cent/share interday jump in the price of Abitibi Mining Corp. [NEX: ABB.H], which put it back to unchanged on the day. 86.8 was risen above as of 11:38 AM ET, thanks to a 8 cent/share opening rise in the price of MCO Capital Inc. class 'B' [NEX: MCO.H].

This point didn't mark the peak of the midday rise, though. The BBCI managed to climb slightly above 87 by 1:13 PM ET, being pushed up there by a 6 cent/share interday rise in the price of Greenshield Explorations Limited [NEX: GRX.H]. This peak lasted five minutes, until a 0.5 cent/share drop in Biomerge's price brought it down to just above 86.75. By 1:22 PM ET, because of a 2 cent/share interday drop in Abitibi's price, the BBCI got down to 86.58. From 1:37 PM ET to 3:06 PM ET, the index drifted between 86.69 and 86.74.

What started as a last-hour rally fizzled by 3:20 PM ET, turning into a definite last-hour decline later. By 3:46 PM ET, the BBCI was below 86.6. The major drop of the last hour came a minute later, when a 3 cent/share interday drop in Tapango Resources Ltd. [NEX: TPA.H] that put TPA.H down 5 cents/share on the day, sunk the BBCI to its closing value of 86.20.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 86.75
  • 11 AM ET: 86.60
  • 12 PM ET: 86.78
  • 1 PM ET: 86.91
  • 2 PM ET: 86.68
  • 3 PM ET: 86.71
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 86.20

This is the first part of the daily NEX report. The second part covers NEX stocks that have sent out news releases during October 12th and the third part covers NEX stocks of note for that day.

NEX Report for October 11, 2007

On Thursday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 87.26, down 0.22 points or 0.251% from its previous close of 87.48. The BBCI gained about 0.14 points in the first minute of trading, thanks to a 0.5 cent/share rise in the price of Abitibi Mining Corp. [NEX: ABB.H] and a 1 cent/share rise in Toba Industries Ltd. [NEX: TBG.H] on their first trades of the day. A few other stocks opened unchanged; none opened down in the first minute of trading. A further 1 cent/share rise in Toba at about 9:33 AM ET pushed the index up another 0.11 points; Rocher Deboule Minerals Corp. [NEX: RD.H] added another boost to the index, at about 9:45 AM ET, by gaining 1 cent/share from its previous close. The BBCI stayed at 87.78 from then until 10:25 AM ET.

There was little movement in the index for the rest of the morning, even though 87.8 was broken though as of 11:43 AM ET due to a 6 cent/share rise in the price of Devin Energy Corporation [NEX: DVC.H] on its first trade of the day.

Shortly before noon ET, the BBCI fell below 87.7, losing 0.2 points in the process, due to a 5 cent/share drop in the price of Surge Resources [NEX: SRH.H] on its first and last trade of the day at $1.40/share. The index stayed below 87.7 until 12:01 PM ET, when a 7 cent/share rise in GTO Resources Inc. [NEX: GTR.H] pushed the BBCI back to above 87.8. The resultant level of 87.81 held until 12:40 AM, and the BBCI stayed above 87.75 until 1:26 PM ET. The day's first trade of Maximum Ventures [NEX: MVI.H] at about that time shoved the index down 0.64 points, to 87.11, as a result of a 9.5 cent/share drop in MVI.H's price from its previous close.

The downturn didn't stop there, either; 87 was fallen through as of 1:42 PM ET because of a 0.5 cent/share interday drop in the price of Biomerge Industries Ltd. [NEX: BIL.H] The day's trough of 86.78 was reached at 2:27 PM ET.

After drifting for about 21 minutes, the BBCI leapt back above 87 at 2:48 PM ET, due to a recovery in the price of BIL.H to 2 cents/share. This return only lasted three minutes, though; 87 wasn't re-established as a floor until 3:40 PM ET when Biomerge moved up another 0.5 cents/share. A five cent/share interday rise in Avigo Resources Corp. [NEX: TMX.H], to its closing price of 50 cents/share a little after 3:48 PM ET, put the BBCI at its closing value of 87.26.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 87.78
  • 11 AM ET: 87.77
  • 12 PM ET: 87.68
  • 1 PM ET: 87.75
  • 2 PM ET: 86.88
  • 3 PM ET: 86.94
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 87.26

This is the first part of the daily NEX report. The second part covers NEX stocks that have sent out news releases during October 11th and the third part covers NEX stocks of note for that day.

NEX Report for October 10, 2007

On Wednesday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 87.48, up 1.73 points or 2.02% from its previous close of 85.75. The opening minute of trading saw the BBC Index gain more than a point, with opening advancers like Newstrike Capital [NEX: NES.H] and The Silver Recycling Company Ltd. [NEX: TSR.H] overriding two decliners in the first minute of trading: Focus Ventures Ltd. [NEX: FCV.H] and MP Western Properties Inc. [NEX: MPW.H]. The price changes give the story away: although TSR.H opened up only a penny/share, and FCV.H opened down 5 cents/share, NES.H opened up 15 cents/share. (MPW.H opened up half a cent/share.)

After leaping up to 87.12 as of 9:31 AM ET, the index jumped up a little more thanks to a 5 cent/share opening gain in the price of Electrohome Ltd. class 'Y' non-voting [NEX: ELL.K], which put its price at three cents above the last closing value of Electrohome's voting stock [NEX: ELL.H]. The BBCI at 9:39 AM, about a half-minute after that ELL.K trade, had moved up to 87.19. After a temporary dip, 87.3 was almost crossed due to an 8 cent/share opening gain in X-Tal Minerals Corp. as of about 10:08 AM.

A drop-off, beginning at 10:38 AM ET, pulled the BBCI down below 87 as of 11:05 AM ET. It stayed below 87 for a little more than two-and-a-half hours. The intermediate trough of this decline was reached at about 12:25 PM ET, when Devin Energy Corporation [NEX: DVC.H] dropped 5 cents/share from its previous close on its first and last trade of the day. Devin put the BBCI down below 86.8.

The trough proper was reached at 1:28 PM ET, six minutes before it leaped back up above 87, because of a one cent/share drop in Tapango Resources [NEX: TPA.H] that put TPA.H three cents below its previous close. This trough only lasted until the next minute, as infrequently-traded Newfoundland Goldbar Resources Inc. [NEX: NGB.H] popped up 0.5 cents/share from its previous close on Sept. 25th on its first and last trade of the day. The BBCI leapt from 86.73 to 87.37 as of 1:33 PM ET, due to a 9.5 cent/share first-trade rise in the price of Maximum Ventures Inc. [NEX: MVI.H].

The index changed little after its 1:33 PM ET leap, until the last hour of trading when it was bumped up to 87.46 as of 3:07 PM ET. ITI World Investment Group Inc. class 'A' [NEX: IWI.H] went back up to its 52-week high of 50 cents/share, for a gain of 6 cents/share above both its previous trade price and its previous close. As of about 3:33 PM ET, the BBCI got well above 87.5 thanks to a 1 cent/share rise in Tapango from its previous trade price. This level failed to hold as of the fourth-last minute of trading, though. A five cent/share drop in Focus Ventures from its previous board-lot-sized trade price, which put FCV.H at the same price it opened at, put the BBCI down to its own closing value of 87.48.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 87.19
  • 11 AM ET: 87.06
  • 12 PM ET: 86.87
  • 1 PM ET: 86.84
  • 2 PM ET: 87.31
  • 3 PM ET: 87.32
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 87.48

This is the first part of the daily NEX report. The second part covers NEX stocks that have sent out news releases during October 10th and the third part covers NEX stocks of note for that day.

NEX Report for October 9, 2007

On Tuesday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 85.75, down 0.99 points or 1.14% from its previous close of 86.74. The decline started right at the open, with a 2 cent/share drop in Devin Energy Corporation [NEX: DVC.H] and a 5-cent/share drop in Maximum Ventures Inc. [NEX: MVI.H], overpowering a 1 cent/share gain in Avigo Resources. [NEX: TMX.H]. Several stocks opened unchanged during the first minute of trading. Net of Avigo, the two decliners pushed the BBC Index down almost 0.35 points to 86.38, the level at which it stayed until ten minutes after 10 AM ET.

It was at that point that the index turned around, starting with a 1 cent/share first-trade gain in Tapango Resources Ltd. [NEX: TPA.H] at about 10:11 AM ET. Another boost was added five minutes later when Tapango inched up another cent, and at the following minute when the same TPA.H gained another cent, which put it up 3 cents/share on the day. Each 1 cent/share gain in Tapango added about more than 0.11 points to the BBCI, leaving it at 86.73 by 10:17 AM ET. Nine minutes later, the index moved from a loss to a gain on the day with a 1.5 cents/share first-trade gain in BHR Buffalo Head Resources Inc. [NEX: BHR.H]. By 10:29 AM ET, thanks to a 4.5 cents/share opening-trade gain in HLD Land Development Limited Partnership [NEX: HLD.UN.H], the BBCI was just short of 86.8, a level it would have stayed at until 11 AM ET had there not been a 0.5 cent/share drop in the price of Landmark Global Financial Corporation [NEX: LST.H] as of about 10:55 AM ET. The drop due to Landmark's first trade, or opening trade, pushed the BBCI down to its 11 AM level of 86.78, where it stayed until 11:20 AM ET.

At that time, the BBCI lost some ground, although not without a secondary reaction. A 2-cent/share drop in Isee3d Inc. [NEX: ICT.H] at about 11:20 AM ET, and a 1.5 cent/share first-trade drop in Mazarin Inc. [NEX: MAZ.H] about ten minutes later, put the BBCI below 86.6 as of 11:30 AM ET, establishing a ceiling until 12 noon ET. A further 1-cent/share gain in Tapango overpowered a 0.5 cent/share drop in Golden Hat Resources Inc. [NEX: GHA.H] to put the index at its 12:00 PM ET value of 86.64, a level at which it approximately stayed at until a 5 cent/share first-trade gain in Focus Ventures Ltd. [NEX: FCV.H] moved the index to about 86.72 at about 12:42 PM ET. 86.7 became a floor for the BBCI until an hour later, when a 2 cent/share opening drop in the price of Abitibi Mining Corp. [NEX: ABB.H] put the index below 86.6.

A late-afternoon (ET) decline started in earnest during the next hour. The BBCI went below 85.5 as of 2:42 PM ET, due to a 1.5 cent/share interday drop in the price of Lomiko Resources Inc. [NEX: LMR.H]. It took only six minutes for the BBCI to fall below 86.4 as it was pushed down by a 6.5 cent/share decline in Arcland Resources Inc. [NEX: ADR H] on its first and last trade of the day. 86.3 was breached right after 3 PM ET due to a 2.5 cent/share drop in Monster Uranium Inc. [NEX: MU.H] that put it from a 1 cent/share gain on the day to a 1.5 cent/share loss. At 3:03 PM ET, thanks to a 2 cent/share drop in the price of Guildhall Minerals Ltd. [NEX: GDM.H], the index was below 86.25.

The last-hour drop wasn't over, though. The next floor to go was 86, which was dropped through as of about 3:17 PM ET as Maximum Ventures dropped another 5 cents/share to close at a 10 cent/share decline on the day. The only subsequent movement in the BBCI was downwards: 85.91 changed to 85.82 as of about 3:51 PM ET due to a 4 cent/share drop in ITI World Investment Group Inc. class 'A' [NEX: IWI.H]. Two other declines near the close, in Magnate Ventures Inc. [NEX: MGV.H] as of about 3:55 PM ET and a 0.5 cent/share backtrack in HLD Land Development as of about 3:58 PM ET, lowered the BBCI to its closing value of 85.75.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 86.38
  • 11 AM ET: 86.78
  • 12 PM ET: 86.64
  • 1 PM ET: 86.72
  • 2 PM ET: 86.55
  • 3 PM ET: 86.38
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 85.75

NEX Report for October 5, 2007

[Correction Notice: The title of this entry had an incorrect date, which has now been corrected. Apologies to anyone who was misled.]

On Friday, the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index for the NEX closed at 86.74, up 0.21 points or 0.243% from its previous close of 86.53. As the graph above indicates, there was a vibrant morning (in Eastern-time terms) in today's NEX trading, which ended with a precipitous drop shortly after noon ET.

The market's open pushed the BBC Index up more than a tenth of a point. A six-cent opening gain in ITI World Investment Group Inc. Class 'A' [NEX: IWI.H], combined with two others that opened unchanged, were responsible for the rise. No NEX stocks opened down in the first minute of trading, although a 0.5 cent drop in Global Tree Technologies Inc. [NEX: GTT.H] at about 9:42 AM ET and a one-cent drop in Challenger Development Corp. [NEX: CDQ.H] as of about 10:03 AM ET, did push the BBCI down a little at those times.

For the rest of the morning, it was basically uphill from there. Global Tree recovered, although temporarily, to 3 cents/share as of about 10:16 AM and stayed at that price for more than an hour: 7 trades' worth, out of a day's total of 18. A much larger rise in the index was effected by a 2-cent/share opening rise in Abitibi Mining Corp. [NEX: ABB.H], on its first and last trade of the day, in the next minute. Other risers during late morning helped push the BBCI up to above 87 as of about 11:07 AM ET. The upsurge continued to about 11:30 AM ET when the BBCI almost reached the day's high of 87.21, thanks to a 1.5 cent opening gain for Rocher Deboule Minerals Corp. [NEX: RD.H] A four-minute dip starting at about 11:35 AM ET was erased (and then some) by a 0.5 cent/share rise in Toba Industries Ltd. [NEX: TBG.H] to 14 cents/share, which put TBG.H at a 1.5 cent/share gain since Thursday's close as of that point. Toba overcompensated for a return to 2.5 cents/share by Global Tree in the same minute. The day's high was reached at 11:39 AM ET, and the BBCI was close to that level until shortly after noon ET.

At 12:02 PM ET, though, the index dropped by almost nine-tenths of a point. The culprit was Devin Energy Corporation [NEX: DVC.H], whose first trade was at 81 cents/share for a drop of 54 cents/share since its previous close. Two minutes later, a trade in Devin went for 70 cents/share, abruptly taking the stock from close to the high part of its trading range to near the bottom of it. As a result, the BBCI dropped by more than a point between about 12:01 and 12:04 PM ET. Devin recovered shortly afterwards, pushing the BBCI back up to 82.32 by 12:10 PM ET.

After that plunge, the BBCI leapt up three times in the afternoon, thanks to a 0.5 cent/share rise in Biomerge Industries Inc. [NEX: BIL.H] as of about 12:24 PM ET, a 5 cent/share rise in infrequently-traded Prism Resources Inc. [NEX: PRS.H] at about 1:59 PM ET, and a 10-cent/share rise in Tri-River Ventures Inc. [NEX: TVR.H] as of about 3:15 PM ET. Another 0.5 cent/share drop in Global Tree on its last trade of the day, to 2 cent/share, pushed the BBCI down somewhat as of about 2:54 PM ET. Trading was quiet in the last hour: the last two trades of the day (and week) didn't change the prices of each of the stocks. So, the 3:15 PM ET jump provided by Tri-River put the BBCI at its closing value of 86.74.

Here are the hourly values for the Barrel's Bottom Composite Index, rounded to the nearest hundredth of a point:
  • 10 AM ET: 86.63
  • 11 AM ET: 86.90
  • 12 PM ET: 87.20
  • 1 PM ET: 86.50
  • 2 PM ET: 86.67
  • 3 PM ET: 86.62
  • 4 PM ET/Close: 86.74
